The Indiana Fever entered the playoffs on weak footing, having suffered a 20-point loss to the Minnesota Lynx in their last regular-season game. Any hopes for a strong postseason start quickly faded when the Las Vegas Aces asserted dominance in Game 1 of the first-round series, securing a decisive 102-85 victory.
During this matchup at the Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas, Nev., A’ja Wilson was a standout performer for the Aces. She delivered an impressive 38 points and pulled down 16 rebounds, proving to be an unstoppable force on both offense and defense.
While Indiana fans had been optimistic after witnessing their team beat the champions in the regular season, the Aces took control early. They built a lead that peaked at 27 points, putting consistent pressure on Indiana throughout the second half.
The Fever struggled to manage Las Vegas’ aggressive playoff defense. Caitlin Clark, although managing a double-double with 15 points and 10 assists, faced persistent defensive pressure, leading to six turnovers and five fouls. Kelsey Mitchell, too, had difficulty finding her scoring rhythm, ending the game with 12 points while shooting 4-of-16 from the field.
Aliyah Boston led Indiana with 18 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, but their offensive efforts proved insufficient against the energetic Vegas side. Sophie Cunningham added some offensive punch off the bench with 13 points, including three three-pointers. Despite her energy and scoring, the Fever could not close the gap enough to threaten the Aces’ lead.
The series now moves to Indianapolis on Tuesday for Game 2 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The Fever aim to defend their home court, hoping to extend the series and force a Game 3.
