Ole Miss vs. LSU: A Closer Look
During Week 3, LSU faced off against Ole Miss in a thrilling match. The game ended with the Rebels securing a 32-24 win. This confrontation was highly anticipated among college football fans. Discussions about it continued days after the final whistle sounded.
Media Mistakes Addressed
ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, along with guests Jeff Saturday and Chris Canty, discussed Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss’s future in the NFL. Canty praised Chambliss extensively but made inaccurate statements about Ole Miss’s history with AP Top 10 teams.
“Ole Miss has had two wins against AP Top 10-ranked teams in the last 60 years, and that dude has both of them,” Canty claimed.
This assertion was incorrect. The program has defeated AP Top 10 teams multiple times in its history, with 16 such wins since 2000. Chambliss, for example, led Ole Miss to victories over LSU in 2026 and Georgia during the College Football Playoff.
Historical Victories
Ole Miss’s record includes defeating highly ranked teams such as Alabama in 2014 and Mississippi State the same year. The Rebels triumphed over Georgia in 2024 and had other significant wins, showcasing their capability beyond what Canty represented.
While errors in discussion can happen, the factual inaccuracies pointed out about Ole Miss’s record are significant. Such discrepancies highlight the need for proper research and verification.
