Justin Langford’s Decision and Football Journey

Justin Langford’s Decision and Football Journey

Facing an Injury Decision

Justin Langford, a defensive lineman for Lincoln Way Central, encountered a major dilemma after suffering a torn right labrum during the wrestling season. The injury occurred during a tournament early in the winter. Despite wrestling with it, Langford was unaware of its severity until the regionals. He noted, “I didn’t know it was torn until the regionals. I couldn’t really use it, so I went to the doctor and found out it was torn.”

Langford’s love and future lie in football. Choosing surgery meant missing his senior football season. Instead, he opted for physical therapy and demonstrated resilience on the field this fall. His team recently faced Lincoln-Way East in a conference game, suffering a 42-0 defeat.

The Comeback

Despite the challenge, Langford provided the home crowd with a moment of excitement by recovering a muffed punt that briefly shifted momentum in their favor. “That was fun,” Langford remarked. “I thought it was going to be a turning point for us in the game. But that didn’t happen.” Unfortunately, an immediate turnover followed, leading to a dominant performance by Lincoln-Way East.

Langford’s shoulder has been resilient. He has planned recruiting visits, including Central Michigan and Valparaiso. Physical therapy, taping, and bracing have made him feel rejuvenated. “It feels brand new. I feel as good as new,” Langford said, reflecting on missing the wrestling state competition.

Returning to Football

Langford admitted returning to football proved challenging. “It was a little rough,” he stated. His rehabilitation included strengthening exercises and targeting inner muscles. A twice-a-day routine combined with football practices contributed to his successful return.

In his return over six games, Langford has achieved 28 tackles, including 13 solo stops. He also recorded a sack, an interception, and led the team with four tackles for losses. Coach David Woodburn appreciates Langford’s presence on defense. “He was a good football player last year, but he has really come into himself this year,” Woodburn noted.

Langford’s showcased versatility, including appearances at tight end, benefits his prospects for college football.

Looking Ahead

Langford’s passion for football drives him to continue playing. “I live for football — I love football,” he expressed. The team has faced close losses, making the recent blowout less typical.

Langford values the camaraderie with his teammates. “Win or lose, it’s great to be a part of something like this,” he shared.
