Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Josh Downs has requested a trade, as reported by ESPN. The 25-year-old player did not refute the claim when addressing the media.
“I’m open to whatever. Whatever comes my way, comes my way and we go from there,” Downs stated, according to ESPN.
Downs’ request coincides with significant changes in the Colts’ roster. The team recently traded key players: Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner. This move is part of a broader strategy following the recent dismissal of general manager Chris Ballard.
The Colts traded Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks for third- and fifth-round picks. They sent DeForest Buckner to the San Francisco 49ers for a fourth-round pick. These trades are crucial for Indianapolis, which lacks a first-round pick in the upcoming draft. They previously traded that pick to the New York Jets for cornerback Sauce Gardner.
Josh Downs has been with the Colts since being drafted in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft from North Carolina. Over his four-year career, he has had 224 receptions, totaling 2,447 yards and 11 touchdowns. Additionally, he has returned punts, averaging 9.4 yards per return.
As of this season, Downs played in seven games, catching 26 passes for 307 yards. His future with the Colts could change before the trade deadline on November 10. If he stays, the Colts will play against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET, potentially marking his last game with the team.
