New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart has experienced pressure to enhance his sliding skills when he runs, evident in last year’s rookie season when he suffered several hard hits. However, some challenges remain beyond his control. During a recent preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings, a defender broke through the Giants’ offensive line and hit Dart hard in the first quarter.
During this event, Dart found himself in the familiar blue medical tent for assessment before rejoining the game. Last season, he frequently headed to the sidelines for evaluation. Expressing his confusion, Dart stated, “I understand the importance of player health, but it’s puzzling to find myself in the tent frequently. I try to make sense of it but that’s all I’ll say about it.” Despite this, Dart expressed satisfaction with the drive’s outcome.
Giants head coach John Harbaugh also commented on the incident, saying he was surprised Dart was sent to the tent. Harbaugh acknowledged the importance of player safety, despite his surprise.
Dart later threw a touchdown in the second quarter. However, the Vikings secured a 13-10 victory. The primary concern for Giants fans remains whether Dart can make strategic decisions to slide amidst defenders. Unfortunately, in this case, he had limited options when Vikings safety Jay Ward tackled him hard.
The preseason highlights the necessary improvements for the Giants, including their response to blitzing defensive backs. Addressing these issues is crucial for their playoff ambitions this year.
