Illegal Migrants Involved in Criminal Incidents in the U.S.

Authorities have arrested Alexis Antonio Cedillos-Campos, an undocumented immigrant, for allegedly stabbing Carmen Lizet Puch on a hiking trail in Great Falls, Virginia. Following this tragic event, former Secret Service agent Charles Marino appeared on ‘Fox & Friends First’ to discuss Cedillos-Campos’s prior release by the Biden administration and called for responsibility.

In a separate case, two Dominican immigrants residing illegally in the U.S., Dangelo Rafael Jean Caraballo, 25, and Sneider Mejia Bautista, 24, face charges for attempting to murder an off-duty New York City police officer. Detective Jose Mercedes was stabbed multiple times during a robbery while attempting to defend himself. Afterward, Mercedes pursued the attackers for two blocks before collapsing from his injuries.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin linked the crime to policies on open borders and sanctuary cities. He urged New York authorities to work with DHS to ensure such criminals are removed from society. Mercedes has recently been discharged from the hospital and is on the mend.

The DHS reported that both Caraballo and Bautista had secretly entered the U.S. via the Arizona border at different points and were subsequently released by the Biden administration. Their criminal records in New York are significant. Caraballo has been arrested for various offenses, including reckless endangerment, unlawful fleeing from police, and possessing burglar’s tools. Bautista’s arrests involve possession of stolen property, grand larceny, and weapon charges.

DHS noted that Caraballo was released after a late 2024 arrest before ICE could place an immigration detainer. Similarly, Bautista was released in 2025, and a detainer request following his weapon charge was declined by New York City under sanctuary policies. DHS highlighted that the swift release of Bautista after his arrests hindered ICE’s efforts to lodge detainers in time.
