The body found earlier this week in Lexington County, South Carolina, has been identified as missing fitness trainer Elena Katherine Moore, according to the authorities on Friday. Moore was last seen leaving a Planet Fitness gym in Lexington on June 11.
The Lexington County Coroner’s Office reported finding the body of a white female near Old Cherokee Road and Northlake Drive on June 17. The identification confirmed Moore, age 39, as the deceased. The autopsy will be carried out at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, and results are expected on June 22.
Determining the cause and manner of death may take several days or weeks. During this period, authorities will not release additional information about the investigation.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is leading the investigation. All inquiries should be directed to them.
Authorities discovered the body following a tip that redirected the search to a new location. The clothing on the body matched what Moore was wearing when she was last seen at the gym.
Moore’s disappearance attracted significant attention due to her unusual behavior before she went missing. Friends reported her inactivity on social media and concerns she expressed about her safety during an in-person meeting in May.
She was scared for her life. She actually said those words to me,Moore’s friend Sondra Campbell stated. Moore had intended to discuss her concerns further, but never got the opportunity.
The Lexington County Coroner’s Office offered condolences to Moore’s family and asked anyone with pertinent information to contact SLED.
