The Stanley Cup Final between the Carolina Hurricanes and Vegas Golden Knights has been action-packed. After four exhilarating games, the two teams returned to Raleigh for Game 5 tied at 2-2.
The start of Game 5 was slower compared to earlier matches in the series. One constant element has been the occurrence of self-inflicted penalties by both teams.
Vegas scored first in this pivotal match. Pavel Dorofeyev netted a power play goal, capitalizing on a power play opportunity. This chance came from a penalty committed by Carolina’s Nikolaj Ehlers, who sent the puck over the glass.
Shortly after, Hurricanes’ captain Jordan Staal tied the game. His goal extended his scoring streak to five games, matching a record for the longest goal streak in Stanley Cup Final history.
Moving into the second period, penalties again came into play. Carolina managed to seize another advantage after a series of penalties from Vegas. Andrei Svechnikov scored, followed by Sebastian Aho. These goals gave the Hurricanes a 2-1 and 3-1 lead respectively.
The Golden Knights faced more hurdles when key player William Karlsson left the game and did not return. Their troubles continued in the third period, as Mark Stone drew a double minor for high-sticking Jalen Chatfield.
On the power play, Svechnikov scored his second goal, extending the Hurricanes’ lead to 4-1. Vegas responded, with Dorofeyev scoring again to cut the deficit.
With the clock running down and another Carolina penalty in play, Vegas removed their goalie for a 6-on-4 power play. Despite creating chances, Tomas Hertl’s attempt was saved by Bussi.
The Hurricanes used the remaining time effectively by targeting the empty net from afar, securing a 4-2 win.
Carolina now leads the series 3-2 with the action returning to Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena. The Hurricanes are poised to win their second Stanley Cup in franchise history.
