The New Orleans Saints became part of the NFL as an expansion team in 1967. Since their inception, the franchise has been based in New Orleans. In the initial years, the Saints faced significant challenges. They struggled for 20 seasons without achieving a winning record.
It wasn’t until 1987 that the Saints secured their first winning season and made their playoff debut. Their first playoff victory came later in 2000. As the new century began, the team saw increased success. Highlighted by a Super Bowl win in 2009, the Saints beat the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV.
Coach Sean Payton and quarterback Drew Brees were instrumental figures in the team’s historical achievements. Under their leadership, the team achieved some of its most noteworthy seasons. The Saints compete in the NFC South alongside the Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
