A severe heat wave with temperatures soaring above 100 degrees is affecting the Northeast ahead of the Fourth of July, leading to the cancellation of various 250th-anniversary celebrations.
From Philadelphia to New York, numerous parades, lectures, and fireworks have been called off, delayed, or relocated indoors to protect people’s safety under extremely hazardous conditions.
The parade is one of our community’s most beloved traditions, and we share in the disappointment of its cancellation, especially as we celebrate America’s 250th birthday
Jayne Musonye, Interim Municipal Administrator of Norristown, Pennsylvania, expressed this sentiment after the city canceled its event. Officials emphasized that safety is the priority amid the forecasted heat threats.
In Colorado, concerns about potential wildfires prompted the cancellation of fireworks in at least eight locations.
