Oswego native Hadley Engler made a notable transition by moving from Benet to Oswego High. The daily commute to Lisle prompted her decision to return to her hometown school. I just wanted to get back home,
Engler remarked, pointing to the commute as a key factor. Since returning, she feels welcomed by the community.
Engler, a sophomore middle hitter, made her volleyball debut for Oswego in their season opener against Waubonsie Valley. She made an immediate impact, despite focusing mainly on basketball during the offseason and adjusting to a new school. Engler appeared experienced and contributed significantly to Oswego’s 25-19, 25-19 win.
In four attempts, Engler successfully delivered kills from the middle, providing the Panthers with an extra threat alongside senior outside hitter Hannah Herrick and junior Sarah Gilio, who each contributed seven kills. Waubonsie’s Ava Edozien led her team with five kills, while Anna Axelsen and Belle Black each contributed three.
Engler’s volleyball preparation stemmed mainly from playing sand volleyball twice a week. Despite limited indoor practice, Oswego coach Gary Mosley observed that Engler was quick to find rhythm with the team. She was ready from day one,
Mosley acknowledged, highlighting her quick adaptation and lack of club volleyball experience.
Engler’s return to Oswego was made easier by familiar faces and strong team chemistry. My teammates have been really welcoming,
Engler noted. The positive atmosphere helped her fit in quickly and contribute effectively.
Engler made a significant impact in her debut match. Her first kill gave Oswego a 12-6 lead in their first game. As the second game tightened to a 17-17 tie, a combination of errors and kills by Gilio secured Oswego’s win. Waubonsie coach Noel Soto noted their determination despite execution challenges.
Mosley praised Engler for her standout energy and adaptability. She fits right in with her bubbly personality,
