Gov. Pritzker Focuses on Trump, Avoids Questions About Hasan Piker

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, a Democrat, addressed questions on a recent talk show about far-left streamer Hasan Piker and his controversial comments. Speaking to ABC’s Jonathan Karl, Pritzker emphasized his priority is countering former President Donald Trump’s influence, rather than engaging with streamers’ opinions.

Pritzker stated, I’m not focused on the streamers and what they’re saying. There are many of them with a lot of views, when asked if the Democratic Party should denounce Piker. The streamer suggested Iran having nuclear weapons could bring stability to the Middle East.

Karl highlighted Piker’s significant online following, but Pritzker reiterated his stance. What I think we should be talking about and focused on is how do we stop Donald Trump, he said. Pritzker emphasized the Democratic Party’s mission to support vulnerable populations, workers, and the middle class.

When asked if he would accept Piker’s endorsement, Pritzker dismissed the question, pointing out, Hasan Piker doesn’t mean anything to me or in my election. Piker has gained attention for his interviews in which he discusses contentious political views.

Piker has described himself as supporting the idea of countries having a right to defend themselves and mentioned mutually assured destruction, citing political scientist John Mearsheimer. Although he said he doesn’t want Iran or any nation, including the US, to possess nuclear weapons, he claimed the Middle East would be more stable if Iran had them.

Some Democrats disagree with Piker’s positions. Rahm Emanuel publicly criticized Piker’s rhetoric, advocating for calling out divisive speech. The great thing about America is that everyone is entitled to their opinions and free to express them, Emanuel said, but he emphasized the necessity of rejecting harmful viewpoints.

Political strategist Kaivan Shroff commented on the growing influence of streamers within the political landscape, saying, Pritzker can say Hasan Piker doesn’t mean anything to him, but that’s increasingly hard to square with reality. Shroff noted Piker’s involvement in political campaigns and media discussions.

Shroff argued that Democrats cannot dismiss influencers as irrelevant, as they are integral to the political media ecosystem. He pointed out the need for Democrats to decide on their inclusivity and the impact of different followers as candidates face future elections.
