New York Giants’ players Jaxson Dart and Abdul Carter spoke to the press following recent attention due to Dart’s introduction of former President Donald Trump at a rally. Despite differing political views, the two teammates emphasized unity and mutual respect during their interactions.
As Dart concluded his remarks, Carter took his turn at the microphone. They embraced as they crossed paths, signaling no personal animosity. The Giants aim to demonstrate there are no internal conflicts in their team, especially between Dart, the quarterback who supports Trump, and Carter, the defensive lineman critical of the president.
“Some things are bigger than football,” Carter noted, addressing the media. “Jaxson represents the team. If he aligns with President Trump, I feel the need to express my stance. I want my teammates and the world to know I’m against that,” Carter added.
Carter previously criticized Dart’s rally involvement on social media, though those posts were later removed. During an emotionally charged statement, Dart explained his decision to introduce Trump. He cited a family history of military and public service, expressing reverence for the presidential role, regardless of politics.
Despite differing political opinions, both players underlined a commitment to unity. Carter stated, “We may not agree politically, but Jaxson and I are still close. Our team goals align, and that’s what matters.” Dart echoed this sentiment, highlighting their shared experiences and mutual support on the team.
Coach John Harbaugh and backup quarterback Jameis Winston also commented on the situation. Harbaugh refrained from criticizing the players, instead noting that a team meeting was held to allow open expression of opinions. Winston praised both Carter and Dart for addressing the issue publicly.
Winston further blamed the media for stoking division, reflecting on the scrutiny faced by both players. “The media seeks to pit individuals like Dart and Carter against each other. Despite public opinions, the team remains united,” Winston remarked.
