Former Israeli PM Lauds Brave Actions During Flight Incident

Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett expressed gratitude to the Saudi authorities after a mid-air incident where a co-pilot attacked the pilot of a flight en route to Israel. The attack led the plane into a nosedive, but quick-thinking passengers intervened to prevent possible disaster.

Bennett emphasized the heroism displayed by those on board, stating on ‘The Faulkner Focus,’ “This wasn’t a miracle, it was an act of heroism by the passengers and the Emirati crew.” He praised the courage of all involved, highlighting their proactive approach in neutralizing the threat. “It’s people who saved the day, people who showed courage,” he remarked.

The flight, initially heading from Dubai to Tel Aviv, had to make an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia. The Saudi authorities provided care for passengers during the unexpected stop. Once the situation was managed, the passengers continued their journey to Ben Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv.

Details revealed by Israeli authorities describe the incident where the co-pilot allegedly attacked the pilot with a pocketknife, attempting to crash the plane. Passengers, including some Israeli citizens, took decisive action. “A couple of passengers, Israeli citizens, jumped into the cockpit,” Bennett explained. They overpowered the suspect and facilitated a switch to alternate crew members.

The dramatic moments were captured in footage showing the injured pilot with an oxygen mask. Both pilots were hospitalized in Saudi Arabia, reports Reuters. Israeli officials are examining whether this was an attempt at a terrorist attack.

Current Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also commended the individuals who intervened. In his remarks on Wednesday, he stated, “I salute the heroes who showed extraordinary bravery,” acknowledging their role in potentially saving many lives. The co-pilot, accused of the attack, was detained and is being questioned by Saudi authorities.
