Fly Fishing and Golf: Unveiling Unique Experiences

Project Healing Waters Offers Therapeutic Fly Fishing
Founded in 2005 at Walter Reed Medical Center, Project Healing Waters provides a therapeutic outlet for veterans recovering from service. This program, discussed by Field Support Specialist Daisy Hargrave, fosters peer support and builds a community for veterans through fly fishing activities. The shared experiences among veterans make fly fishing a powerful tool for healing.

A Curious Encounter at LIV Golf New York
LIV golfer Charl Schwartzel experienced an unusual incident during a tournament at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster. His tee shot on the 134-yard, par-3 seventh hole initially landed on the green before spinning backward towards water hazard. Surprisingly, a largemouth bass, an ambush predator known for consuming a variety of prey like fish, crayfish, and frogs, emerged and swallowed the golf ball whole. This unexpected moment highlights the unpredictable nature of wildlife interactions on golf courses.

Despite the humor of a bass eating a golf ball, golf rules stipulate no penalty when an animal moves a ball at rest. However, since Schwartzel’s ball was already in the penalty area, he faced a one-stroke penalty, resulting in a bogey.

Golf Courses and Wildlife Encounters
Golf courses often feature wildlife such as alligators, snakes, birds, and occasionally, bears and moose. Yet, a bass consuming a golf ball right after it hits the water stands out as a rare event. Such encounters add a unique charm to the golfing experience.
