A Florida man, Andres Bahamon, was taken into custody on Monday following the discovery of suspected human remains at a Marion County location. These findings emerged during the investigation into the disappearance of Bahamon’s father, 43-year-old Andres Bahamon-Prada.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office reported that they initiated the investigation on May 16 after a family member alerted them to Bahamon-Prada’s absence since May 7. Both father and son resided in Dunnellon.
Detectives uncovered evidence suggesting foul play, treating Bahamon-Prada’s disappearance as a potential homicide. Bahamon was detained in connection with the case. Initial accounts from Bahamon stated he last saw his father on May 7, who purportedly mentioned someone would be picking him up.
The investigation also revealed that Bahamon-Prada’s silver 2007 Infiniti M35 vanished from the premises and has not been recovered.
Statements from the victim’s mother indicated she suspected her son of killing Bahamon-Prada. She reportedly confronted Bahamon near a store, where he expressed that his father was “in hell where he deserves to be” because he was “an evil person” and a “junkie.”
Upon inspecting the Dunnellon property on May 18, deputies encountered shattered glass doors, a bullet hole, a shell casing near the porch, suspected bloodstains, and recently disturbed soil in the backyard.
Authorities discovered Bahamon sent his mother in Germany a photo appearing to show Bahamon-Prada deceased near wooden steps at the property. The image depicted a man fitting Bahamon-Prada’s description lying motionless with a red stain near his head and shirt.
Detectives, with a search warrant in hand, located a large rolled carpet buried in disturbed soil. They detected the odor of decomposition in the area and found suspected human remains within the carpet.
While the remains await positive identification, detectives named Bahamon a person of interest and charged him with tampering with evidence to hinder the homicide investigation.
The search for Bahamon-Prada’s missing silver 2007 Infiniti M35 is ongoing, and authorities suspect it holds crucial evidence.
