The WNBA faced criticism from fans after scheduling Game 6 of the WNBA Finals for 12:30 p.m. ET on a Thursday in Atlanta. The timing resulted from a logistical challenge, as the Atlanta Hawks had a game later that evening at State Farm Arena.
Despite the unusual start time, over 17,000 fans filled State Farm Arena to watch the Golden State Valkyries face the Atlanta Dream. This enthusiastic turnout demonstrated the loyalty of WNBA fans, many of whom likely took time off work or skipped professional obligations to attend the game.
State Farm Arena added a lighthearted touch to the event with a “Work from Home Cam” instead of the usual pregame activities like a kiss cam. The camera operator highlighted fans who might have missed work to attend. Some fans humorously covered their faces, playing along with the playful jab at the WNBA’s scheduling decision.
The Valkyries had the opportunity to clinch the 2026 title with a win on Thursday. A win by the Dream would lead the series back to Chase Center in San Francisco, California, for a deciding Game 7 on Saturday, October 31. The championship will be decided by Saturday at the latest.
