During the third quarter of the Chicago Sky’s game against the Indiana Fever, Cloud scored a basket, leading to a timeout. Positioned near the basket, Freedom stood up when Cloud directed her emotions towards him. The confrontation required intervention from Sky players and security, resulting in Freedom’s removal from the arena.
Explaining the incident to OutKick, Freedom recounted that he celebrated a three-point shot made by his friend, Sophie Cunningham, which seemed to incite Cloud’s reaction. Freedom insists his intentions were to support and protect women.
Freedom was wearing a shirt defining the term ‘woman,’ which he believes played a role in Cloud’s reaction. Cloud’s response questioned his motives and launched a verbal exchange. Alter characterized Freedom’s behavior as ‘trash talking,’ aimed at provoking Cloud.
Meanwhile, Cloud expressed her support for the transgender community on social media, seeming to reference her interaction with Freedom. Through Threads, Cloud assured transgender individuals of their belonging, visibility, and protection. Her message aligns with ongoing discussions in sports about transgender athletes.
