Recently, Debi Mazar, known for her role as the publicist Shauna Roberts on HBO’s “Entourage,” described the show’s set as “toxic.” In an interview with The Sunday Times, she referred to a “testosterone-fueled environment” and felt criticized for her appearance after having her second child.
Mazar’s comments have prompted a response from Doug Ellin, the show’s creator. Ellin expressed his disagreement with Mazar’s claims on social media, calling them “disgusting.” He stated, “Never, ever did myself or anyone that matters care or discuss Debi Mazar’s body.” Ellin mentioned his focus was on changing the physiques of Adrian Grenier and Jerry Ferrara for specific reasons and now regrets any potential health implications of those discussions.
Further, Ellin defended the show’s atmosphere by stating, “ask 99 percent of the women who were on it, who are still good friends to this day.” His position was clear, “No one would have given a s— about her weight,” emphasizing Mazar’s talent, not appearance, was the focus.
Mazar’s interview highlighted her initial joy on the set, but noted a shift by the third season. Despite describing the environment as “toxic,” she maintained her professionalism and gratitude for her experience on the series.
The series “Entourage” aired from 2004 to 2011, and Mazar continued her role in the 2015 movie adaptation of the series.
