DOJ Subpoenas Rep Omar’s Family Members in Federal Probe

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., faces increased legal challenges as federal investigations delve into her immigration history, financial disclosures, and a recent raid on her home. Fox News justice correspondent David Spunt reports on subpoenas being issued to Omar’s family members. Former federal prosecutor Andrew Cherkasky joins host Harris Faulkner to discuss the potential legal and political implications of these investigations.

During a raid on Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington, D.C. home, federal authorities seized her cell phone as part of a criminal fraud investigation regarding her immigration paperwork. Omar’s immigration history is under renewed scrutiny, with investigators issuing over a dozen subpoenas to her family members following the raid.

The investigation questions whether Omar’s family falsified her age when she immigrated to the United States in 1995. Omar became a U.S. citizen in 2000. The probe examines if the age listed on her application differed from her true birth date. At the time of acquiring citizenship, she was reported to be 17 years old, qualifying for automatic citizenship through her father’s naturalization.

Questions about Omar’s age resurfaced after her congressional staff requested a change in her birth year from 1981 to 1982 in historical records at a Minnesota public library months after she took office.

Federal agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) raided Omar’s Washington, D.C. residence, as confirmed by a source to Fox News Digital.

Omar’s husband, Tim Mynett, assured Fox News Digital about his wife’s immigration history, stating, “My wife came here when she was 12 years old as a child war refugee. No concerns.” Investigations are also scrutinizing paperwork submitted by Omar’s late father, Nur Omar Mohamed, for his U.S. entry application, probing for inaccuracies.

Omar has denied wrongdoing, accusing the Trump administration of using federal law enforcement against political opponents. Her office released a statement, saying, “For a decade, Donald Trump has relentlessly targeted Congresswoman Ilhan Omar with inflammatory rhetoric, repeatedly putting a target on her back. Now, those attacks have escalated to a pointless federal raid. The Congresswoman has done nothing wrong. No president should be able to use the power of the federal government to intimidate his political enemies.”

Besides the immigration probe, there’s a separate investigation into Omar’s federal financial disclosures. Officials clarified it is unrelated to the raid on her home. Fox News Digital contacted Omar’s office for comments.
