Vacationers faced a terrifying ordeal on Monday when a projectile struck a busy beach at a Russian Black Sea resort town. The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of seven individuals, including four children, and left numerous others injured. This disturbing event unfolded in the village of Arkhipo-Osipovka, located near Gelendzhik, as the beach was bustling with visitors.
According to the Russian Mission in Geneva, the strike was attributed to a drone launched by Ukraine. This unmanned aerial attack reportedly targeted civilians, prompting accusations against Kyiv for aiming at non-military individuals. Video footage from the scene captured the chaotic situation, with people scrambling for safety.
Regional Governor Veniamin Kondratyev confirmed through a Telegram post that emergency services are actively addressing the aftermath of the attack. He condemned the act as a deliberate assault by the Kyiv regime, noting its impact on civilians uninvolved with military activities. He expressed frustration over the targeting of children and labeled it a terrorist attack.
Contradicting Russia, Andriy Kovalenko of Ukraine’s Defense Forces provided a different perspective. He asserted that the casualties were a result of Russian air defenses intercepting a drone, leading to debris falling onto the beach. Kovalenko shared his insights on Telegram, highlighting flaws in Russia’s account.
Video evidence from the scene also revealed sounds resembling gunfire shortly before the drone descended, causing an explosion and widespread panic. Reports indicate that gunshots may have altered the drone’s flight path, contributing to the disaster.
Initial Russian investigations acknowledged that several fatalities were caused by debris from the intercepted drone, as stated by Governor Kondratyev.
Further discussions by Kovalenko explained that Ukraine’s weaponry targets Russian military and industrial sites, aiming to disrupt Moscow’s capacity to finance ongoing conflicts. He accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of fostering false security by downplaying drone incidents and strategically placing air defenses near populated areas.
Kovalenko attributed the tragic deaths to Putin’s decisions surrounding the war initiation and defense strategies. He emphasized that without the conflict initiated by Putin, these individuals would still be alive.
