Controversy Surrounds Texas Democratic Candidate

Democratic leaders are in a race to halt Maureen Galindo, a candidate accused of antisemitism, from becoming their nominee for a U.S. House seat in San Antonio. Concerns have arisen over alleged antisemitic remarks and a sudden financial boost to her campaign.

House leader Hakeem Jeffries accused Republicans of backing Galindo secretly, attempting to weaken Democratic prospects in the November elections. Two Jewish House members pledged to push for her expulsion if elected to Congress.

Galindo, a progressive sex therapist, gained national scrutiny after suggesting an immigration center be repurposed as a detention facility for ‘American Zionists.’ She later clarified her stance, stating that her comments were misinterpreted by local media, and reiterated her call for closing all detention centers.

Despite the buzz in Washington and among political commentators, the issue has failed to capture significant attention within Texas’s 35th congressional district. Interviews conducted on the final day of early voting revealed that many voters were unaware or uninformed about the controversy surrounding Galindo.
