A 60-year-old woman from Texas experienced severe injuries after an incident on the Rocky Mountain Coaster at Copper Mountain Resort in Colorado. Reports indicate the woman suffered a broken rib, collapsed lung, traumatic brain injury, and dislocated shoulder requiring surgery.
According to her attorney, Nicki Parker was thrown from her seat on the coaster and dragged along the track for 20 to 30 seconds. The attorney, Trent Ongert from Bloch Ongert Injury Law, reported that the seat belt became entangled, continuing to pull her as the ride progressed.
Her husband, who was riding in a cart behind her, attempted to assist. Ongert explained that Parker was left lying on the track, and her husband had to help her from a height of 15 to 20 feet off the ground.
Parker remains in the hospital due to her injuries. A sign on the ride states that if a seat belt disconnects, the cart will stop and beep. Investigators from Colorado’s Division of Oil and Public Safety’s Amusement Rides and Devices Program are looking into the incident, which occurred on August 17, 2026.
The ride has been closed pending further investigation. The Division also instructed the manufacturer to issue a safety bulletin to inform other operators. A similar ride at Purgatory Resort is also closed while the investigation is ongoing.
The Rocky Mountain Coaster, known as the second longest alpine coaster in North America at 5,800 feet, remains closed. The resort has expressed sympathies for the injured guest and wishes for a quick recovery.
