Coast Guard Plane Makes Safe Emergency Landing with Homeland Security Secretary

An emergency landing involving a Coast Guard plane carrying Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has drawn attention. The incident occurred Wednesday when the C-37A aircraft, a military version of a Gulfstream V, lost an engine. It safely landed at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport without injuries to any of the 14 individuals on board.

After the event, Mullin praised the pilot’s handling of the situation in a social media post. He commended the crew for making the single-engine landing feel routine, emphasizing their professionalism and calmness.

Concerns about the aircraft had already been expressed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). CBS reported that the department previously noted issues with the plane. DHS mentioned last year that the Coast Guard aircraft, aged 22 years, faced substantial challenges related to outdated avionics and communication systems.

Efforts to obtain a comment from DHS outside regular business hours have been made by Newsweek.

This story is still developing, with further updates expected.
