The Chicago Cubs, seeded fifth, are set to face the fourth-seeded San Diego Padres in a best-of-three National League wild-card series. This series begins on Tuesday at Petco Park.
The Cubs completed their season in second place in the NL Central Division for the fourth year in a row. Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Brewers secured their fourth consecutive division title.
Last year, the Cubs defeated the Padres in the wild-card series at Wrigley Field before losing to the Brewers 3-2 in the division series. This season, the Cubs recorded a strong 5-1 record against the Padres, outscoring them 55-28. This includes a notable 23-3 victory on July 1.
The only instance the Cubs played a postseason series in San Diego occurred during the 1984 National League Championship Series. The Padres won all three of their home games, ultimately taking the series 3-2.
