Golf star Charley Hull created a stir with a prank on her caddie, Adam Woodward. She gifted him a fake scratch-off lottery ticket, leading him to believe he had won $100,000. The joke drew criticism from some, but Hull brushed it off.
Hull, 30, shared the story with the media before the Women’s British Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club in England. When asked about the backlash on social media, Hull remained unfazed. No, and people that have complaints about it, I’d say loosen up,
she told reporters.
Woodward found the prank amusing, according to Hull. She recounted how he reacted to the fake win. He thought it was funny after,
Hull said. If people don’t like it they can lump it, do you know what I mean? I felt bad for (Woodward) but at the end of the day, I just got to have a good week and then at the end of the week I’ll buy him 100 scratch cards.
Hull intends to give Woodward a chance to earn more than what the fake ticket promised if their performance in the tournament is strong.
Hull described how on Tuesday, Woodward was ecstatic about the supposed win. He’s scratching it, scratching it, scratching, and he’s like ‘Oh my gosh, I’ve won,’
Hull said. Woodward was so excited he planned to take the day off, thinking he had hit the jackpot.
He was visibly moved, nearly deciding to quit his job, Hull recounted with a laugh. Eventually, they revealed the truth to him.
Hull and Woodward have a chance to secure earnings through their performance in the Women’s Open. After two rounds, Hull is tied for seventh with a 2-under par score, four strokes behind the leader.
