Celine Dion has returned to performing after a six-year hiatus, emotional and determined. The 58-year-old launched her 26-show residency at the Plenitude Arena in Paris, France, on September 12. She began the concert with her French-language song “On Ne Change Pas,” visibly moved.

“These are, of course, tears of joy. I’m so delighted to see you,” Dion told the audience, according to People magazine.

Dion expressed the significance of her return, stating, “I made a promise to come back, to be back on stage. So here I am, singing for you and singing for me, singing life!” She thanked her fans for their support during her absence, adding, “I am everything I am because you loved me,” before performing her hit “Because You Loved Me.”

Dion’s career faced challenges starting in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic postponed her “Courage World Tour.” In January 2022, she canceled the North American leg due to prolonged recovery from severe muscle spasms.

Months later, Dion shared an emotional video revealing her struggle with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), a rare autoimmune movement disorder affecting one in a million people. The condition causes muscle stiffness, complicating her ability to walk or use her vocal cords properly.

“All I know is singing,” Dion explained. “It’s what I’ve done all my life. And it’s what I love to do the most.”

In 2024, Dion showed progress at the Grammy Awards, receiving a standing ovation when presenting the album of the year. Her journey was also featured in the Prime Video documentary “I Am: Celine Dion.”

In July 2024, she performed at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony, marking her return to live performances with Edith Piaf’s “L’Hymne à l’amour.”

Her residency in Paris includes hits like “My Heart Will Go On” and “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now.” Dion remains resolute about performing despite her health issues. “I’m not giving up,” she said in 2023. “And I can’t wait to see you again.”
