Celebrities Reflect on Opting for Celibacy

Mackenzie Phillips, known for her extroverted lifestyle in the past, has taken a different path, focusing on celibacy. In a candid conversation on Valerie Bertinelli’s ‘Getting Naked’ podcast, the 66-year-old revealed that her social energy quickly wanes after a busy day. She shared, ‘I would get home, and I would have no words left, so to get up and do it again the next day, I had to be alone to recharge.’

Phillips admitted she has been celibate for 15 years, deciding that caring for herself is important. She explained to Bertinelli, ‘I’ve had enough sex to last for several lifetimes for several people, and the parts of me that were injured or wounded, I can care for them myself.’

Bertinelli supported the idea that there’s nothing wrong with celibacy and shared her own experiences, saying she has also gone through periods without physical intimacy.

Phillips married music manager Jeff Sessler and guitarist Shane Fontayne before marrying her third husband, Keith Levenson, all of which ended in divorce.

Mackenzie Phillips has sworn off dating for many years.

Meanwhile, celibacy seems to be trending among Hollywood celebrities this summer. Sharon Stone disclosed her own decision to embrace celibacy, stating in the podcast ‘Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown’ that she hasn’t been in a relationship for a long time. Stone expressed a desire for meaningful companionship rather than casual relationships.

‘I’ve had good luck and bad luck and no luck at all. For quite a long time, I’ve had no luck at all. I’ve been celibate for quite a while now because I’m just at the point where I really only want to be with someone that I care for,’ Stone said.

Stone, previously married to producer Michael Greenburg and journalist Phil Bronstein, shared that while she had loves in her life, she doesn’t believe she’s found the great love of her life.

Teri Hatcher confessed to seven years without a date. The ‘Desperate Housewives’ actress spoke to HELLO! magazine, emphasizing she is content being single and surrounded by friends.

Hatcher mentioned her experience with dating apps, noting, ‘I thought I’m going to say to the universe that I am open and vulnerable, but they kicked me off the app.’ Despite the experience, Hatcher feels happy without being on dating apps.

Hatcher was married to personal trainer Marcus Liethold for a year and later to actor Jon Tenney, with whom she shares a daughter.

As multiple celebrities choose celibacy, they highlight a focus on self-care and contentment in their current lives.
