The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released a food safety alert regarding alfalfa sprouts. Consumers are advised to avoid eating these products due to potential contamination.
The alert follows reports of 55 illnesses across 15 states. The majority of cases are concentrated in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Those affected have been diagnosed with either salmonella or E. coli infections, linked directly to the consumption of alfalfa sprouts.
Four individuals have required hospital treatment. The CDC urges the public to exercise caution and remain informed about potential food safety risks.
