Caitlyn Jenner, a Fox News contributor, recently shared her views on the WNBA’s debate over transgender policy. Jenner joined ‘Fox News @ Night’ to respond to former NBA player Royce White’s satire of the WNBA’s gender policies following his draft declaration. She criticized the league’s stance and emphasized the importance of safeguarding Title IX.
Jenner addressed how the WNBA is handling the discussion about whether transgender athletes can participate in the league. According to Jenner, the WNBA lacks clear guidelines concerning the inclusion of transgender athletes.
In the midst of the debate, former NBA players Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White have also made efforts to join the WNBA. Jenner commented on these attempts, suggesting they highlight the league’s inconsistency on this issue.
Appearing on ‘Fox News @ Night’ with Trace Gallagher, Jenner stated that the solution is straightforward. Jenning noted, “Cathy Engelbert, the head of the WNBA, mentioned that discussions have occurred but a decision has not been made. Cathy, simplification is needed: XX, you’re in; XY, you’re out.”
Jenner has supported the International Olympic Committee’s decision to ban transgender women from female sports due to biological advantages that are not entirely offset by hormone therapy. She feels this is crucial to protecting women’s sports.
Article XIII, Section 1(a) of the WNBA’s collective bargaining agreement specifies only women may play, but fails to define ‘woman’. The terms ‘transgender’ and ‘gender identity’ are also absent from the agreement, which includes definitions for numerous other terms.
A WNBA spokesperson mentioned recent meetings covered various subjects, including discussions about transgender athletes and the hostility faced by players online. The league strongly opposes efforts that undermine or marginalize others in these discussions.
