Buffalo Bills Concerned Over James Cook’s Fumbling Issue

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook, renowned for his rushing ability, faces scrutiny over his fumbling issue. Cook ranks third in the NFL with 532 rushing yards this season and led the league last year with 1,621 yards. Despite his performance, a troubling pattern of fumbles has emerged as a major concern.

Through the first five games, Cook has fumbled four times—the highest in the NFL—including twice during the team’s 37-34 overtime victory against the Los Angeles Rams. His tendency to fumble nearly cost the Bills the game. Coach Joe Brady expressed frustration over Cook’s inconsistency.

“Right now, we’re putting the ball in harm’s way,” Brady stated. “The way we lose games is by turnovers. James has been putting the ball on the ground. He’s doing great in running but fumbles negate the positives. I have confidence in him, which is why I put him back out there. However, at some point, there have to be consequences for turnovers—it’s going to cost us games.”

If Cook continues to fumble, Brady hinted at reducing his playing time. This may lead to increased responsibilities for backup Ray Davis, who totaled 275 rushing yards and 10 receptions for 86 yards with two touchdowns last season. Additionally, Buffalo has Ty Johnson and Frank Gore Jr., who could receive more carries.
