Bucs Rookie Quarterback Jalon Daniels Set for First NFL Start

Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie Jalon Daniels is preparing to make his first start in the NFL on Sunday, stepping in for the injured Baker Mayfield. Daniels, previously a standout at Kansas Jayhawks, is ready to take charge against the Green Bay Packers in Week 4.

Daniels shared a new perspective on handling pressure during a recent interview. When asked about remaining calm on the field, he emphasized the importance of setting the tone for his team. Absolutely. I think that one thing I learned in college was, you can’t be the thermometer, you have to be the thermostat, he stated. You have to be someone who comes in and is able to set the temperature of the room, not test the room and try to be able to blend in with it.

With the Buccaneers facing potential elimination from playoff contention after a challenging start to the season, Daniels has a significant task ahead. The team is hoping for a victory to avoid slipping to 0-4. Coach Todd Bowles emphasized the collective effort required for a win, stating that the game isn’t reliant on Daniels alone. For us, it’s just trying to get a win, Bowles explained. He’s not playing by himself. Everybody has to do their job. We’ve got to coach it the right way on both sides of the ball, including special teams.

Daniels also sought advice from Baker Mayfield before the game, with Mayfield encouraging him to embrace the opportunity and play true to his own style. He simply put it as: you’ve been dreaming of this opportunity, just stay composed, play as yourself, Daniels recounted.

The Buccaneers are striving to salvage their season amidst the challenging circumstances. Daniels’ debut will be a pivotal moment for both him and the team.
