Bruce Blakeman Criticizes New York Leadership Over Public Safety Issues

Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman criticized Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul during a campaign event on the New York City subway system. The event focused on issues of crime and commuter safety in the city.

Blakeman, who has experience as a Nassau County executive and former commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, emphasized that public safety is a significant concern. He argued that Democratic policies have negatively affected public confidence in safety, especially in New York’s largest city.

Blakeman proposed increasing police presence, hiring more conductors, and improving resources for those with mental health issues. He specifically targeted Governor Hochul and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani for their handling of public safety.

According to Blakeman, crime in the subway system has increased significantly under their leadership. He advocated for measures to ensure cleaner and safer public transport.

Blakeman criticized congestion pricing, describing it as a tax on the middle class that does not encourage public transportation use.

Governor Hochul vetoed legislation requiring more conductors on subway trains, citing modernization efforts and cost concerns. Blakeman insists that conductors contribute significantly to passenger feelings of safety.

He labeled Hochul as “the most pro-criminal governor,” citing several policies that he believes have compromised public safety. These include cashless bail and changes to prison practices.
