Brewers Beat Cubs Despite Misiorowski’s Struggle

Misiorowski Faces a Tough Night at Wrigley Field

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski experienced a challenging evening against the Chicago Cubs. Despite having not allowed more than three earned runs in a start this season, Misiorowski yielded a season-high five earned runs on Wednesday night at Wrigley Field. The Cubs pressured the right-hander into throwing 92 pitches in just four innings.

Misiorowski gave up five hits and four walks, yet the Brewers still secured a 9-5 victory. Cubs manager Craig Counsell noted, “Their bullpen pitched very well and kind of put the game in order. I thought we swung the bats better than the results show, but their bullpen did a really nice job.”

Cubs Offense Can’t Capitalize

While Cubs starter David Peterson struggled, conceding six runs and seven hits over 3 2/3 innings, the Cubs’ offensive efforts couldn’t capitalize on Misiorowski’s unsteady performance. Alex Bregman led the Cubs’ offensive response with a two-run home run in the first inning and a two-run single in the second, following Tyrone Taylor’s RBI single.

Bregman remarked, “I thought the guys did a good job of battling and trying to take some good swings on good pitches, and when the ball’s out of the zone, not swing. They’ve got a really good ball club over there, and it takes execution on our end to win these kinds of games.”

Key Plays and Defensive Highlights

Despite the offensive exchanges, the Cubs faced a one-run deficit after Nico Hoerner’s impressive diving catch in shallow left field. Hoerner’s play covered 63 feet at 27.8 feet per second, preventing further runs. Bregman praised Hoerner’s defense, saying, “Obviously an unbelievable defender and making a clutch play is huge, especially in that spot.”

Cubs’ Playoff Hopes Diminish

Following back-to-back losses, the Cubs find themselves nine games behind the first-place Brewers in the division. Key relievers like Daniel Palencia struggled to maintain sharpness, allowing a run on two hits. Palencia was briefly checked after tweaking his knee but continued playing.

Closer Jacob Webb endured a scare in the ninth inning when a 102.5 mph liner struck his forearm, resulting in a significant contusion. X-rays revealed no fracture, Counsell confirmed postgame.
