Colorado Representative Lauren Boebert has strongly denied the allegations contained in a House Ethics Committee complaint. The complaint claimed she engaged in sexual relations with members of her staff. In a statement shared with Newsweek, a spokesperson for Boebert’s office stated that these allegations are completely false and politically driven.
According to the spokesperson, these accusations are tactics to manipulate the ethics process and generate headlines. The complaint was filed by David Wheeler on September 17 and is part of the activities of American Muckrackers, a Democrat-aligned Super PAC.
Boebert labeled the claims as a smear campaign designed to generate clickbait.
The accusations suggest that Boebert had sexual relationships with three staff members and paid $200,000 in hush money to one individual. Boebert, who has four children, finalized her divorce from her husband in 2023, citing irreconcilable differences.
In addition to the ethics complaint, Boebert’s personal life has drawn public attention. Her son was arrested on multiple charges, including sexual exploitation of a child. In response, Boebert conveyed her concern and prayers for those involved.
Wheeler defended his claims, accusing Boebert of denial and evading accountability. He documented various accusations, including affairs and substance use, referring to evidence in public records.
The complaint against Boebert asks the House Ethics Committee to investigate. Wheeler insists that the allegations are supported by records and witness testimony.
The committee will first ensure the complaint meets procedural standards before deciding on further action. Wheeler’s request is for an investigative subcommittee to be formed, but the timeline remains uncertain.
