Ben Affleck has addressed rumors surrounding a notable scene from his diverse filmography. At 54, Affleck confirmed that he fully appeared nude in the 2014 thriller “Gone Girl.”
The film, directed by David Fincher and based on Gillian Flynn’s 2012 novel, includes a shower scene where Affleck appears without any body doubles or prosthetics. In an interview with Variety, Affleck stated, “I wore no prosthesis.” He noted that his only use of a prosthesis was a nose piece for the movie “Hollywoodland.”
In “Gone Girl,” Affleck portrays Nick Dunne, a writing teacher who becomes a prime suspect when his wife, Amy, portrayed by Rosamund Pike, goes missing. Affleck discussed the filming experience, noting the director’s clear vision and assurances regarding the scene’s discretion.
“David assured me — because trust is essential with directors and actors — ‘Listen, if we tilt down, we’ll never go far enough to see anything,'” Affleck recounted during his acceptance speech at the 2014 Hollywood Film Awards.
He lightheartedly added, “I’d like to thank you for keeping the set cool… If you’re gonna have one chance for America to see your junk, you want it to be cold.” He reflected on the film’s long-lasting influence, expressing willingness to take risks for Fincher. “I was willing to do anything for [Fincher], like, be naked,” he shared with Letterboxd. Affleck remarked that working alongside Fincher was a great honor, calling him “one of the absolute greatest filmmakers ever to live.”
Jennifer Garner, Affleck’s ex-wife, commented on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2014. She humorously added, “What I have to say is, ‘You’re welcome.’ I just try to consider myself a charitable person, and I wanted to give back. You give me so much, I wanted to give something back to all of you.”
