Beastie Boys member Mike D will introduce his first solo album titled “Thank You” from his project Mike D 5D on August 28. This album represents the first significant release by a Beastie Boys member since “Hot Sauce Committee Part 2” in 2011.
The album promises a fresh experience with “a dozen servings of sonically inventive post-electronic grooves” complemented by “hypnotic hooks”. These elements feature Mike D’s unique voice, leading listeners through a dynamic audio journey, as stated in a press release.
As part of the album’s introduction, Mike D has premiered a visualizer for the track “True Colors”, available for streaming now.
The creation of “Thank You” began with what Mike D describes as “experimental recording sessions” at his home studio. The process was initiated with the involvement of his sons, Skyler and Davis. Over time, other contributors joined this collaborative effort. The album includes vibrant artwork by Can Can Press, Thad Higa, and Charles Deroyan.
Mike D expressed his joy in collaborating with close friends and family, stating, “It’s been a lot of fun making this music with people I love and appreciate. I hope it brings joy to others without being too serious, given the world we are releasing it into.” He highlighted the importance of art and emotion amidst challenging times.
Fans are excited to witness how Mike D continues the legacy of the Beastie Boys, especially with family involvement in the project.
