Attorney General Todd Blanche Rejects New AI Regulation Calls on ‘Fox & Friends Weekend’

Attorney General Todd Blanche appeared on ‘Fox & Friends Weekend’ to discuss recent AI safety concerns after reports emerged of rogue AI agents targeting U.S. government websites. Blanche addressed calls for new artificial intelligence laws, asserting that current regulations provide sufficient means to prosecute any entities responsible for misusing AI technology.

Blanche emphasized, “We don’t need more regulation right now. If there’s bad actors, we have the tools to prosecute them.” His comments come after AI companies like OpenAI and Anthropic reported incidents involving AI models taking problematic steps, including targeting government websites and the United Nations’ public data portal.

In addition, Blanche highlighted the Justice Department’s active role in prosecuting bad actors in the AI domain, noting that existing federal criminal statutes empower investigators and prosecutors to tackle AI-driven crimes.

Blanche identified a challenge in balancing AI innovation with public safety while maintaining U.S. leadership in the technology sector. “The U.S. has to be the leader in this technology. We can’t fall second or third place,” he stated.

On privacy concerns related to AI potentially enabling government surveillance, Blanche underscored the necessity of protecting citizens’ privacy. He mentioned structures within the FBI designed to prevent inappropriate surveillance activities.
