Army Secretary Driscoll Resigns Amid Cabinet Shakeup

Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, a respected figure among bipartisan lawmakers and a close ally of Vice President JD Vance, is set to resign soon. The White House has accepted his resignation, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Last week, NBC News reported Driscoll expressed his intention to leave the administration by Labor Day. He visited the White House to discuss his future, but the outcomes of those discussions were initially unclear.

Rumors of Driscoll’s departure have been circulating for months. Serving since February 2025, he has been an influential figure within the administration. His upcoming departure follows others from the Defense Department, including Navy Secretary John Phelan and Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George, both of whom were removed earlier this year.

The Wall Street Journal first disclosed the news of Driscoll’s resignation.

White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly commended Driscoll’s contributions, highlighting his role in advancing initiatives to strengthen America’s military, improving readiness, and facilitating talks between Russia and Ukraine.

Differences between Driscoll and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have been noted, particularly over Army transformation and readiness issues. Driscoll opposed Hegseth’s decisions to remove certain generals and block promotions of senior officers.

The Pentagon redirected inquiries about Driscoll’s resignation to the Army, which has yet to comment.

The situation is evolving, with more updates expected soon.
