Apple Settlement Over Delayed Siri Features

Apple Settlement Over Delayed Siri Features

Apple has reached a $250 million settlement regarding allegations of unmet promises about Siri’s capabilities. U.S. customers who bought certain iPhone models between June 2024 and March 2025 are eligible to claim a part of this settlement. Claims must be made by December 21, 2025.

Who Can Claim?

The settlement is for U.S. residents who purchased iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone 16-series devices, excluding purchases for resale. Eligible customers expected to use specific Siri features that were not delivered must submit claims. Kevin Thompson from 9i Capital Group noted that the issue arose from alleged false advertising by Apple.

Claim Process

Claims can be submitted via the official Smartphone AI Settlement website. Required information includes the device’s serial number or Apple Account email. Alternatively, claimants can use a Claim ID and PIN if they received a settlement notice. Michael Ryan, a finance expert, advised against paying others to file a claim.

Potential Payout

Each device may bring about $25, but this could vary based on the number of valid claims. The amount might rise to $95 per device or fall below $25. Ryan emphasized that tech companies should deliver features at the time of purchase to avoid such issues.

Details of the Lawsuit

Filed in the Northern District of California, the lawsuit claims Apple did not deliver on Apple Intelligence features as promised. Apple denies these claims and states the settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing. A final court hearing is set for February 2027, pending approval.

Implications for the Tech Industry

According to Thompson, settlements like this allow companies to avoid full accountability. The tech industry often faces criticism for overpromising features that aren’t yet available. This case highlights the need for transparency in product capabilities.
