Anne Hathaway Reveals Long-term Vision Issues
Anne Hathaway shared her struggle with a concealed medical issue that affected her for a decade before she opted for surgery. On The New York Times’ podcast “Popcast,” the 43-year-old actress disclosed that she was “legally blind” in one eye during her 30s due to an early-onset cataract.
“This is maybe too much information,” she commented. “I was half blind for 10 years.”
She explained that her vision was impacted significantly, rendering her legally blind in her left eye until she underwent surgery.
Insights into Cataracts
According to the Mayo Clinic, a cataract clouds the eye’s lens.
“Seeing through cloudy lenses is often like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window,” the Clinic states. “Clouded vision from cataracts can make it challenging to read, drive at night, or recognize facial expressions.”
Personal Transformation
Hathaway described her current vision as miraculous. She expressed gratitude for the ability to see clearly each day, noting, “I appreciate vision because I literally feel like every day, I wake up and I get to see the way that I do, it’s a miracle.”
She reflected on the progress in medical treatments, acknowledging that past generations may not have had such options.
Addressing Plastic Surgery Rumors
Recently, Hathaway responded to rumors about plastic surgery. She usually avoids commenting, preferring not to draw attention to herself.
“We’re at a time when people feel very confident in assuming what they think is fact, and sometimes what they think is accurate and sometimes it’s not,” she remarked.
Hathaway wished to clear up the speculation, stating, “I wanted to show that like, no, I didn’t make a huge medical decision. It’s just two braids.”
She admitted, “I might still get a facelift someday.”
