AI Robot Doova: A New Companion for Seniors

AI Robot Doova: A New Companion for Seniors

Tuya Smart has introduced a new AI robot called Doova, designed to assist seniors living independently. This innovation was showcased at IFA 2026 in Berlin. Doova is a wheeled home companion that helps seniors with safety and connectivity, allowing them to remain in their homes longer.

Features of Doova

Emergency Response

Doova uses LDS LiDAR technology for navigation. Equipped with a four-microphone system, it can detect the source of sounds. If someone falls or requests assistance by saying, ‘Hey Tuya, help,’ Doova locates the person and assesses the situation. If there is no response within 60 seconds, it alerts family members through a live video call. However, it does not autonomously detect falls or contact emergency services directly.

Daily Interaction and Security

Beyond emergencies, Doova offers conversational AI, enabling natural interactions. It can engage in conversations or play entertainment, assist in understanding bills or letters, and identify potential scam risks. However, verifying flagged items independently is recommended.

Everyday Assistance

Doova aids in daily tasks, like reminding users to take medication or keeping track of schedules. It adapts to user preferences over time to enhance its usefulness. Additionally, plans include a feature to help locate misplaced items, offering practical convenience.

Home Monitoring

Doova serves as a mobile home-monitoring device, conducting 360-degree scans and providing safety reports. This function is beneficial when users are away, with the robot returning to its charging dock autonomously.

Privacy Considerations

Given Doova’s capabilities, privacy concerns arise due to its microphones, AI vision, and live video features. Users should inquire about how data is processed and stored, and whether they can delete any collected information. Tuya has yet to clarify these privacy controls.

Smart Home Integration

Doova also functions as a smart home controller. It enables seniors to control lights, curtains, and compatible devices with voice commands, simplifying the use of smart home technology.

Future Prospects and Considerations

While Tuya has not disclosed Doova’s price or release date, potential buyers may wonder about its price and performance in real homes. Rugs, cords, and stairs pose practical challenges for mobile robots.

The emphasis is on Doova’s ability to enhance independence for seniors while providing peace of mind to families. However, thorough real-world testing and privacy assessments are necessary before relying fully on this technology.
