Aaron Rodgers recently opened up about the end of his engagement to actress Shailene Woodley. The Green Bay Packers quarterback shared his thoughts during a candid conversation on his Pittsburgh Steelers teammate Cam Heyward’s podcast, “Not Just Football.”
Rodgers recounted meeting Woodley during the COVID-19 pandemic. They quickly moved in together and revealed their engagement in 2021. However, their relationship ended about a year later. Rodgers said, “I date Shailene, I propose and she says yes.” He reflected on how Woodley may have felt pressured to make a decision, adding that shortly after their engagement, she informed him of her intentions to be with someone else.
“She told me before we get married, ‘I got to go f–k this guy.’”
Rodgers explained Woodley later claimed he caused her depression by leaving, though he emphasized she chose to end the relationship and returned the ring by March. Attempts to reconcile were unsuccessful. Rodgers noted, “There wasn’t even a relationship in ’22 to break off. She told me, I don’t want to be with you.”
Reflecting on previous relationships, Rodgers commented, “The height of their fame was when they were with me.”
Woodley’s representatives did not respond to requests for comment. In a 2022 interview with Outside magazine, Woodley addressed the breakup indirectly. She mentioned experiencing a traumatic event in early 2022 and subsequent depression lasting six months. While not naming Rodgers directly, she expressed, “I haven’t shared much about my relationship with Aaron because it always makes me cry.”
