A.J. Brown Out with Injury as Patriots Suffer Loss

The New England Patriots faced a tough defeat against the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday, compounded by injury news on Thursday. Wide receiver A.J. Brown underwent an MRI, confirming a high ankle sprain, which threatens to sideline him for three to six weeks, according to reports.

Head coach Mike Vrabel expressed uncertainty about Brown’s availability, stating, “I don’t know if he’ll be available going forward here for the next week, but we’ll see. Once we get the report, we’ll figure out what the treatment plan is.”

The injury occurred during an incomplete pass attempt in the third quarter when Seahawks cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett’s knee collided with Brown’s ankle, forcing it into the ground. Initially listed as questionable, Brown was later ruled out of the game. Before exiting, he managed three catches for 26 yards and drew a defensive pass interference penalty that facilitated the Patriots’ only touchdown.

Brown was a significant offseason acquisition from the Philadelphia Eagles, traded for first- and fifth-round picks in the 2028 and 2027 NFL Drafts. The Patriots aimed for Brown to become a key receiving target for quarterback Drake Maye.

In his absence, Maye will rely on Romeo Doubs, who signed a four-year, $68 million contract, along with Mack Hollins, Demario Douglas, and Kyle Williams. Doubs faced criticism for a crucial missed catch on second-and-14 in the fourth quarter, which led to Maye’s interception on the ensuing drive, contributing to his three fourth-quarter interceptions.

The Patriots, now 0-1, aim to recover in their next game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. A.J. Brown’s injury poses a challenge as they look to improve their record in the upcoming games.
