Costa Cruises has advised its guests to avoid taking buffet food to their cabins and warned of possible fines for such actions. Guests could face a €60 cleaning fee, equivalent to about $70, as reported by the cruise blog Crew Center.
The cruise line is part of Carnival Corporation. A spokesperson told Fox News Digital that the safety and well-being of guests are top priorities. “On a limited number of specific sailings, onboard communication was shared as a preventive and deterrent measure, in line with our existing policies, to encourage guests to exhibit responsible behavior,” said the spokesperson.
Costa Cruises aims to ensure a high-quality, safe, and enjoyable experience for all its passengers. They emphasized that room service staff, trained in sanitation and hygiene, are the only ones permitted to transport and deliver food to cabins, according to Crew Center.
The policy requires that all food be consumed exclusively in designated dining areas. Reactions from travelers on social media have been mixed regarding these buffet food rules. Some agreed with the cruise line’s decision, citing the unsightliness of plates and cups left in hallways, while others felt the policy was too strict.
Costa Cruises, operating from Genoa, Italy, offers voyages in the Mediterranean, Caribbean, and South America. Some passengers expressed support for the policy, agreeing with the necessity to maintain sanitation standards. Others shared personal preferences for dining on their balconies or questioned additional charges amid existing cruise line issues.
