President Donald Trump stated on Saturday that a significant agreement with Iran and several allied nations is close to completion. This announcement suggests a possible end to the controversial 84-day conflict.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump shared that a ‘very good call’ took place with leaders from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Pakistan, Türkiye, Egypt, Jordan, and Bahrain. The deal is nearing the final stages.
‘An Agreement has been largely negotiated, subject to finalization between the United States of America, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the various other Countries, as listed,’ Trump wrote.
He mentioned speaking with Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, which also went positively. Details of the agreement are still under discussion and are expected to be announced soon.
The President highlighted a crucial part of the deal that pertains to the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. This development follows extensive diplomatic efforts and military pressures regarding the war with Iran.
Trump had earlier shared with Axios the uncertainty of signing the deal, considering a return to combat operations. However, after conversations with Arab leaders, regional diplomats expressed a positive stance, supporting Trump’s achievement in talks.
Additionally, the U.S. military has been active in the area, with the U.S. Central Command reporting the redirection of 100 commercial vessels during a blockade of Iranian ports. This strategy aimed to pressure Iran economically.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio has highlighted the progress negotiators are making while emphasizing that the resolution involves ensuring that Iran keeps the Strait of Hormuz accessible and relinquishes its enriched uranium.
