Attending a Major League Baseball game comes with its own set of rules, and staying alert is top of the list. A fan learned this the hard way during a recent game. Jamie Golla was seated in the lower bowl on the third-base side at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. She was there to enjoy the Mariners’ game against the Padres.
Golla’s friend captured a selfie video of their time at the park. Sung-mun Song of San Diego was up to bat in the fifth inning. The video soon documented an unexpected incident.
The moment turned from fun to painful as a foul ball struck Golla on the head. The sound of the impact was alarming.
This foul ball was no ordinary fly ball. It was a real screamer, so much so that no one around attempted to catch it. Fans both in the stadium and at home often hold their breath during such moments, hoping no one gets hit. Sadly, Golla was not that lucky.
As reported by the New York Post, Golla was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. She spoke about her condition, saying, “I’m feeling a little better than yesterday. My head is still a bit swollen, and I’ve been getting minor headaches here and there, but overall I’m doing okay. I didn’t think this video was going to blow up. I appreciate the people who have been checking up on me.”
The Mariners’ staff reached out to check on her well-being post-incident. They also offered her and her friends tickets to a future game.
The Mariners were defeated by the Padres that night with a score of 2-0.
