U.S. and Nigerian Forces Target ISIS in Nigeria

U.S. and Nigerian forces have conducted another operation targeting ISIS fighters in Nigeria. This announcement came from the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) shortly after a significant operation resulted in the death of a high-ranking ISIS leader.

AFRICOM confirmed the joint strikes against ISIS militants were completed in collaboration with Nigeria’s government. Current assessments indicate no harm to U.S. or Nigerian forces during the mission. According to AFRICOM, these actions weaken the group’s ability to plan attacks that could endanger U.S. and allied security.

President Donald Trump stated that U.S. and Nigerian forces successfully targeted Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, known as ISIS’s second-in-command globally. Trump shared this news on Truth Social, emphasizing the elimination’s impact on hindering ISIS operations in Africa and against Americans.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth confirmed that al-Minuki and multiple ISIS leaders were neutralized. Hegseth mentioned that this operation was part of a concerted effort to address threats posed by ISIS in Nigeria.

In a previous operation, the U.S. military executed ten strikes targeting over 30 ISIS locations in Syria. This response followed an ambush in December that resulted in the loss of U.S. troops. The efforts in Syria are part of a broader campaign to maintain pressure on ISIS remnants.
