President Trump Addresses Coast Guard Academy Graduates Amid Tensions with Iran

The United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, witnessed President Donald Trump commend the graduating class of 2026 on Wednesday. He praised their ‘unbelievable heroism and exceptional selflessness’ and warned they would face more tests in their military careers.

In his address to the graduates, Trump highlighted their role as ‘America’s first defenders’ and ‘first responders.’ He noted they had been tested and would continue to be tested throughout their careers.

The speech marked Trump’s first commencement at a military academy since deploying U.S. troops to a new conflict. He briefly addressed the ongoing war with Iran, now in its 12th week, portraying it as evidence of U.S. success somewhere he described as ‘the hottest country anywhere in the world.’

The only question is, do we go ahead and finish it up or are they going to be signing a document? Let’s see what happens.

Tensions over potential renewed strikes on Iran loomed as Trump mentioned his willingness to strike but indicated instead that ‘serious negotiations’ were underway with Iran. Despite past threats, Trump leaned towards diplomacy, citing breakthroughs in discussions yet to become public.

Earlier, Trump expressed no rush to settle the conflict, referring to the upcoming midterm elections as a consideration.

The graduation ceremony faced scorching heat, prompting distress among the attendees. Shortages of shade led to calls for relief for the elderly, and though chilled water bottles were initially available, they quickly warmed. At least one person received medical care after fainting.

Returning to the academy for the second time, Trump proudly claimed he was the first president to give two commencement addresses at the institution, suggesting a third visit could be in the future.

In a departure from traditional non-political commencement speeches, Trump highlighted national revival under his administration. He criticized his predecessors, promoting policies like tariffs and immigration control, asserting that the United States no longer apologizes for its power and wealth.

What we do really is we want to maximize it. We take advantage of it, and we wield it to pursue our country’s glorious destiny and our beautiful American Dream.

Trump emphasized the importance of the Coast Guard, especially during hurricanes, and encouraged graduates to enjoy life.

Vice President JD Vance is scheduled to address the U.S. Air Force Academy graduates soon, following the tradition of the president and vice president speaking at service academies annually.
