Tampa Bay Rays Force World Series Game 5 with Dramatic Extra-Inning Win

The Tampa Bay Rays secured a thrilling 4-3 victory against the Milwaukee Brewers in the 12th inning of Game 4 of the World Series. The game took place on October 28, 2026, in St. Petersburg, Fla. This nail-biting win has forced a decisive Game 5.

In the top of the 12th, Cooper Pratt gave the Brewers a lead with a tiebreaking home run, marking his fourth hit of the game. The Brewers were close to sweeping the series. However, the Rays, also aiming for their first championship, mounted a comeback in the bottom half, beginning with a throwing error by Brewers third baseman Joey Ortiz.

Liam Hicks hit a single off Brewers pitcher Shane Drohan. Jonny DeLuca’s single then brought in pinch-runner Cedric Mullins, tying the game at 3. Chandler Simpson’s single loaded the bases, prompting Milwaukee to utilize a five-man infield. Ben Williamson, having struggled in the postseason, stepped up as a pinch-hitter and delivered a game-winning RBI single.

That was totally what I told him to do, said Rays manager Kevin Cash, prompting laughter during the post-game interview.

This victory marks Tampa Bay as only the fourth team in World Series history to stave off elimination by rallying in extra innings. The first three teams (1912 Red Sox, 1986 Mets, 2011 Cardinals) all went on to win the championship, according to OptaSTATS.

Chandler Simpson summed up the team’s resilient attitude, stating, We’ve got a lot of fight in us. We’re never going to shy away.

Game 5 will be held at Tropicana Field, with Jacob Misiorowski, the NL Cy Young Award favorite, starting for the Brewers. The Rays have yet to decide on their starting pitcher.

Tampa Bay handed the Brewers their first loss in nine games, disrupting their bid to mimic historical sweeps. Milwaukee captain Christian Yelich commented on the nature of the challenge, emphasizing that winning a championship is supposed to test a team.

David Hamilton also contributed a homer for the Brewers, and Jackson Chourio continued his impressive performance, adding a single and a double to his tally.

Pratt, a standout rookie for the Brewers, drove a slider into the left-field seats against Ian Seymour. Pratt had also earlier tied the score with an RBI double.

Amidst a supportive crowd of 40,514, the game retained a distinct Wisconsin atmosphere, with many Brewers fans in attendance.
